27-May-1926   -   20-Jul-2023 , Age 97

It is with sadness we report the passing of Ken Dews G3PMW. Ken was born on 27 May 1926 in Birmingham.

He joined the Marconi Company as an apprentice in 1950. After his apprenticeship, he worked on broadcast transmitters. He worked alongside Roy Martyr (who held the adjacent callsign G3PMX). He worked on a number of transmitter developments for overseas customers, including the Mauritius Broadcasting Company.

Ken was always generous with his time and experience to assist young engineers to further their career. He retired from Marconi in 1990.

Ken was a keen radio amateur, and held the callsign G3PMW from 1961. He joined the RSGB in 1951 and was a member for more than 70 years.

Ken was an active member of Chelmsford ARS, where he served on the committee from 1966/67, initially as Secretary, and then as Treasurer until 1976.

He was a keen participant in direction finding events in the 1960s and 1970s, and loaned his scaffold tower to the club to help put up the antennas for NFD. He was often heard on the club nets as well as contributing a number of technical articles to the club newsletter.

In later life he moved to Sutton Coldfield to be closer to his family. Ken died on 20th July 2023.
