CARS Christmas Lunch December 2010
Christmas Lunch - Saturday, 4th December.
CARS this year had their Christmas Lunch in the Glades Restaurant in
Chelmsford. Post Code CM2 9AJ.
Although Chelmsford and surrounding districts have seen more than 6 inches of snow - the Lunch
was well attended with 28 Guests, Members and Wives.
We met for drinks and a chat from midday - the main topic being "How did you cope with this unseasonal weather?"
We had the restaurant to ourselves which was
nicely laid out in such a manner that we were not squashed in. It was decorated
with Christmas trim and lovely and warm.

CARS President, Carl, G3PEM said Grace and the Lunch, which had been pre-ordered, arrived in a quiet professional manner.
A number of presentations to the Raffle enabled Carl to run a Raffle - the proceeds were given to the
RSGB Fighting Fund (see later).
CARS President called "Order" and Phillip took to floor to thank CARS for inviting him as a Guest and to introduce Neil
who has now taken over as Phillip has been Seconded as a RSGB Board Member. Phillip said he was
very pleased to be associated with CARS and that CARS had been voted "Club of the Year" by the RSGB,
Phillip is seen here holding the Glass Presentation Trophy.
Neil then thanked CARS for inviting him as a Guest and was pleased to meet so many friendly Members.
He welcomed the opportunity to travel to such a thriving Club (he had come from Cambridge) and
said he was keen to promote inter-Club events and inter-Club co-operation.
CARS Chairman, John pointed out we had Members present from SEARS, (Canvey Island), Braintree and an Essex
Repeater Group Member from Rettenden - this was greeted with a well deserved applause.
Additional photographs will be placed in an Past Events Web Page in due course.
CARS Committee would like to thank Martyn Metcalf, G1EFL and Val his Wife for
organising the event and with that President presented Martyn with a Flower to give to Val when she returns from her course.
Carl also presented Pauline with a pot containing a Narcissi for choosing the Glades.
Gwyn, G4FKH organised a tray and a cash donation was made to the Chef and Staff who had looked after us so well.
Goodbyes were made and everyone returned to their homes.
Danbury Hill still had snow even though most had gone from Chelmsford.
Our thanks to The Glades Restaurant, Martyn and Val for organising it and all those who supported it.
What do we do next year? Do we repeat the excellent event? Suggestions to a Committee Member, please.
