SOS Radio Weekend
Sat-23 & Sun-24th January 2016
At Marconi Sailing Club, Steeple, CM0 7NUGX0MWT On Air
By CARS MembersFor the third year, CARS again participated in the RNLI SOS Radio Week over the weekend of 23rd and 24th January 2016, coordinated by Chris G0IPU and Oliver M0WAG. The club operated GX0MWT at Marconi Sailing Club, by the River Blackwater - Locator JO01JR, WAB Square TL90
Setting up was on Saturday morning, assisted by relatively mild weather. We even had some sunshine! Operating was from around 10am through to 4pm, and an earlier finish on the Sunday to allow for clearing up.
In addition to a good cause, the idea was also to encourage any member of the Society that has not had a go at an event like this to come along and have a go on the air. Young and old were all welcome to have a go. Operating was on HF and 2m:
- HF: 40m using a Comet CH250 and 80m courtesy of a kite aerial
- VHF: On 2m, a X500 with a tall mast.

Peter Bridgeman G3SUY brought his potent HF combination of a long high aerial flown aloft by a kite and a portable valve amplifier (in the car boot) - see the 2014 report for more info on Peters kit
