Museum of Power - 2015
Family Fun Day
Sun 26-Jul-2015, 10am-4pm
Museum of Power
The Society was asked to join the Museum of Power on their “Family Fun Day”, and to that end we agreed to put on some hands-on, radio-related activities. These included a DF hunt, Radio Controlled Cars with remote viewing, Electronic Kit, Morse Keys, the Morse Mouse Game, Morse Keys demonstration and a HF / VHF amateur Radio Station for the passing of greetings messages using the Club Callsign GX0MWT.
We started at 9:00am for the initial setup of the activities, ahead of the doors opening to the public at 10:00am to 4:00pm. Unfortunately the weather was not at its best so the DF hunt and Radio Controlled Cars with remote viewing, were not used. Whilst the radio station was on air a few contacts were made, mostly on HF with a few on VHF.
CARS Demos and Operating at the Museum of Power
Conditions on HF were mixed - 40m seemed mostly dead, whereas 20m had the usual contests running which proved to be interesting to listen to. The Morse Mouse game proved popular with both younger visitors and older ones alike. A first for CARS was an electronics kit (snap-together circuits) which was received very well. One young lad spent a lot of time on the kit, finding the instructions easy to follow.
Hands-on - Morse Mouse Game and the new Electronics Kit
The only drawback was that the rain never let up until the end of the event. Getting the antennas and mast down in the rain was a bit if a task, but as a team we managed to get cleared up very quickly. Many thanks go to all who helped in this very successful event
